Half day visit to Royal Geographic Society, London, April 2025
Where: Royal Geographic Society, Exhibition Road. Kensington, London
When: Friday 11 April 2025 from 10.30 am to 1.00pm (and 2.00pm to 4.30pm if group more than 25)
Who: IMCoS members and their guests
Location: Royal Geographic Society RGS, Exhibition Road, Kensington, London (two mins from the Royal Albert Hall and a few minutes from the V and A, Science and Natural History Museums.
Whats on: Katherine Parker, Cartographic Collections Manager for the RGS, who is well known to many members of IMCoS will curate and lead this visit
10.30 am Arrival and Refreshments
11.00 Tour of the RGS with a focus on the permanent maps, globes and exploration on display
12.00 Tabletop display and explanation by Katherine Parker in the Reading Room of maps, charts, plans, books and exploration artefacts, which are rare and must sees in the RGS collection for IMCoS members
1.00pm. Lunch at locations as you wish at your own expense. The Royal Albert Hall Café, Victoria and Albert Museum V & A café and the Hyde Park Café are all close by. The Big three London museums, V and A, Science, and Natural History are nearby. Free to enter but all have special exhibitions as well. Check their websites for events and special exhibitions.
If there are more than 25 or so applicants the same programme will run in the afternoon from 2.00pm to 4 .30pm
