Sarah Tyacke CB, President of IMCoS
Sarah Tyacke took over as President of the Society in 2007. She is well known in the map world having worked as Deputy Map Librarian at the British Library and as author of a number of publications on the subject. She is looking forward to the IMCoS International Conference in London and has been assisting Jenny Harvey with some of the arrangements.
Now a Distinguished Senior Research Fellow, School of Advanced Study, University of London, a council member of Royal Holloway University of London (RHUL) and a trustee of the Hakluyt Society in addition to being Chair of the Mount Everest Foundation (MEF) and the Harley Trustees, she is quite a busy lady. She is also a director of Imago Mundi.
Until her retirement she was Keeper of Public Records and Historical Manuscripts Commissioner for the United Kingdom government and Chief Executive of the National Archives of England and Wales from 1992 to 2005. She is now pleased to return to her first love, the history of cartography between 1500 and 1700.
Together with Dr Catherine Delano-Smith Sarah teaches the history of maps and mapping at the London Rare Books School (LRBS) at the University of London each summer and has been appointed an associate editor for Volume 4 of the History of Cartography project. |
