International Map Collector's Society
17th International Symposium
Tokyo, Japan
October 3rd - 6th 1998

The Antique Map Society of Japan is contributing to the dissemination of mapping culture worldwide by hosting our 17th International Symposium. The theme of the symposium is Mapping Japan. A unique mapping culture has existed in Japan since long ago in both the scientific and artistic fields, but only a portion of it has been introduced abroad to date. Our hosts and the distinguished speakers will introduce and expose the unique and diversified mapping history of Japan for the enlightenment of an international audience.

The Symposium will be held at the KKR Hotel (Tekebashi Kailan) located north of the Imperial Palace. It is a 15 storey building with bar, restaurant and cafe, serving both western and Japanese food. It has a magnificent view of the city. Near the KKR Hotel is the Jimbo-cho area, world famous for its streets lined with over one hundred antique book shops, some of which also sell maps.
