19th International Symposium
Reykjavik, Iceland
September 15th - 18th 2000

IMCoS will be holding its 19th International Symposium at the National and University Library of Iceland in Reykjavik.  The facilities are located adjacent to the University of Iceland which is close to the City Centre.  The Library will open an exhibition of old maps of Iceland in conjunction with the Symposium.

Reykjavik has the honour of being designated as one the European Cities of Culture for the year 2000.  At the same time two other special events will be celebrated throughout Iceland: one is the 1000th anniversary of the official acceptance of Christianity in Iceland and the other is the 1000th anniversary of the European discovery of the New World by Icelander Leifur Eiriksson.  This means that throughout the year 2000 many unique and exciting events and exhibitions will be offered to the general public.
