18th International Symposium
Istanbul, Turkey
October 10th - 14th 1999

In conjunction with the 700th anniversary of the founding of the Ottoman Empire, IMCoS will be holding its 18th International Symposium in the city denoted in antique maps as Byzantium or Constantinopolis, but which we now call Istanbul, Turkey. The main theme of this symposium is "Ottoman Cartography" and it has received the full backing of the Turkish Ministry of Culture.  There will be at least two exhibitions of Ottoman Maps, which will have their official openings during the Symposium.  The Symposium lectures will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel.
